Magnolia Famers Market

Weekend Wonderfulness

Great weekend of weather and fun for all!  Saturday started off,  for me, with a walk with a few friends down Magnolia Boulevard along Elliot Bay. After the walk, we hit Starbucks for some coffee and conversation, then I went to the Magnolia Farmers Market  for fresh-baked pastries and a stop at a sidewalk sale. (If you’re planning to head the Magnolia Farmers Market, go now! October 11 is their last day!)

After I filled myself with coffee and pastries, hubby and I took the doggie to Magnuson Park in the University  District. The weather was gorgeous and we tired out the ol’ pup playing Frisbee for an hour. (Well, my hubby did most of the playing. I enjoyed the park bench and sunshine.) On the way home we couldn’t resist going to Brouwer’s Cafe again. I mean, it was on the way home…sort of. (Side note: I’m not sure why Brouwer’s is called a cafe. It’s not how I would define a cafe. It’s a manly, beer-swilling, sausage-eating kind of place. Think Bavarian castle with heavy wood, iron, leather and brass nail heads.) Brouwer’s didn’t disappoint. We came home happy and satiated.

Sunday, it was apple picking time! We drove to Jones Creek Farm about an hour and a half north. I’m not going to lie. It was a bit disappointing. The apples were small and most were covered in black dots. The farm seemed a bit run down but it was nice to get out in the fresh air and out of the city. On the way back, we stopped at Eagle Haven Winery. Yum! It’s a small, family run winery that shares its land with a fabulous apple orchard. It’s a lovely, little place. The tasting room was in a small log structure and it had a very homey, welcoming feel – nothing pretentious. We sampled a few wines, chatted up the wine pouring lady (clearly, I don’t know the technical term here) and left with a few bottles to enjoy later.

I’m hoping next weekend will include pumpkin picking and sites of changing leaves! Until then…
